Ying Yang Twins-U.S.A.: United State of Atlanta (TVT)

It’s hard to not like the Ying Yang Twins.  It always looks like the two Atlanta natives are having fun.

When their debut single, “Whistle While You Twurk” hit the clubs and climbed the charts the twins were on their way to success.  Although success took its good ‘ole time, it finally came when the D-Roc and Kaine hooked up with fellow Atlanta ambassador and crunk king, Lil’ Jon.  Behind the boards for the smash hit “Salt Shaker,” Lil’ Jon finally gave the duo what they always coveted; mainstream appeal.  The strip club staple made the household names thus opening the doors to collaborations with pop artists like Britney Spears.

Now that they have everyone’s attention, the twins now take on the country with the United State of Atlanta or U.S.A.  Now, you’ll have to listen carefully for their lead single, “Wait (The Whisper Song).”  Just as the title indicates, the twins are literally whispering.  The low volume track will force listeners to turn up the volume, thus experiencing its defining but hypnotic bass.

U.S.A. is loaded with strip club anthems such the trunk rattling “Badd,” the Lil’ Jon produced “Put That Thang Down” and “Shake.”  A surprise appearance by Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine adds to the mystery of U.S.A.  Levine lends his distinct vocals to “Live Again,” an uplifting track about getting a second chance on life.  The twins aren’t all about the ladies, and show their maturity on this set.  The track “Long Time,” speaks on the two long time friends and their plight to the ranks of hip-hop elite.  The track is anchored by the soulful crooning of R&B star, Anthony Hamilton.

Whether it’s for the ladies or for radio, the Ying Yang Twins have figured out what it takes to have success at the mainstream level.   Along with their mentor Lil’ Jon, the twins are in the dark no longer and will continue to experience the limelight if they keep the hits comin’.  (8/05)
