White Town-Women In Technology (Chrysalis)

White Town's first single "Your Woman" is the perfect novelty one-hit wonder single. It's got everything, an infectious techno beat, weird vocoderized vocals a la Taco doing "Putting On The Ritz," gender bending lyrics of a man singing he will not be your woman, even a quirky sample of long forgotten 1930's British song & dance man Al Bowlly.

It's the type of song that will rule the airwaves all summer and then be totally forgotten until about the year 2010, when it'll get stuck onto a Super Hits Of The '90's compilation.

It's almost too bad, because the rest of Women In Technology is similarly tuneful and fascinatingly peculiar. But, when was the last time you heard a song by Taco? (5/97)
