The Search
for Santa Paws
Disney’s latest direct-to-DVD release The Search for Santa Paws is a
prequel to the popular 2009 DVD Santa Buddies. It is fun and
enjoyable, but also somewhat dark and scary in places.
When Santa goes to New
York, he is hit by and taxi and mugged (some of the scary stuff) and wanders
aimlessly around NYC with amnesia, getting separated from his dog Paws.
But, when he gets a job as a toy store Santa, some of the holiday magic
starts.
At the same time, Mr. and Mrs. Huckle come to NY to sell a toy store they
inherited. Quinn (Kaitlyn Maher-America’s Got Talent) – an adorable
little girl whose parents just died – is dropped off at an orphanage. Sad
and frightened, Quinn meets wonderful little girls, but they are all treated
terribly by Ms. Stout (more of the scary stuff) who runs the orphanage.
From early on though, you know that their paths are going to cross and it
will turn out all right. You may need to reassure your kids though – I
did.
All in all, The Search for Santa Paws was an enjoyable holiday movie
with the end filled with seasonal magic and happiness. Kids will love the
fun musical numbers and the exciting adventures though out will undoubtedly
want to see it because of their love for the other Bud movies in the past.
Available on DVD and
Blu-Ray. Extras include deleted scenes and a music video “Deck the Halls”
performed by Disney’s Debby Ryan. Other fun extras are a Sing-Along Mode
which brings up the lyrics so your family can sing a long to some of the
musical numbers and a interactive animated pop-up book where Buddies Rosebud
reads a holiday story.
