The very best Fantastic Four actors of all time

If youre a fan of Marvel Comics, no doubt youre counting down the days until the new Fantastic Four film is released on 6th August. In the reboot of the franchise, the four heroes are given their powers when they transport to an alternative universe. It promises to be an exciting adventure, with a brilliant cast including Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell.

To celebrate the new film, weve decided to take a look back at the best Fantastic Four actors of all time:

Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic

The Welsh actor was well-established by the time he was cast in the 2005 Fantastic Four film, having already starred in Titanic, Black Hawk Dawn and the hugely successful series Hornblower. In Fantastic Four he brought his classic RADA-honed acting skills to a Hollywood super hero blockbuster, and made his comic book character incredibly realistic and three dimensional.

Kerry Washington as Alicia Masters

Although it was only a small role, Kerry Washington shone as the blind artist who falls in love with The Thing. Back then she was just emerging as a serious actress, after receiving rave reviews for her performance in Spike Lees She Hate Me. Now the actress is best known for her role in Scandal, the addicitive ABC political drama.

Michael Chiklis as The Thing

The American brought comic relief to the role of The Thing, not surprising when you consider he first rose to fame in the ABC police comedy The Commish. Chiklis also brought gravitas to the film however, as three years before he had won an Emmy for his role as gritty anti-hero Via Mackey. He has since spoken if his initial difficulty with the costume. He said in an interview: "Initially it was really, really kind of frightening for me. I knew it would be a physical challenge. I did not know it would be a psychological challenge."

Lori Alan as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman

In the cult cartoon series from 1994, Lori Alan provided the voice of Sue Storm. Voice artists are not often given the recognition they deserve, but Lori Alan is one of the best working in the business. She has provided voices for countless Disney films including WALL.E and Despicable Me, as well as TV series like Futurama and Family Guy.

We've looked at some of the best Fantastic Four performances of all time, but it remains to be seen what the new cast will offer. There were plenty of alternative actors up for the role, each very talented, but the casting team ultimately had to decide who was most suited for the role: which makes you think, which character would you be the most-suited to? Find out with this quiz - and decide if your performance could match up to some of the best of all time.
