Curious
George 2 - Follow That Monkey!
There is no real reason for them to have made Curious
George 2: Follow That Monkey! I don't think anyone has been
holding their breath for a sequel to the first Curious George film -
particularly a sequel with all the voice talent gone. The book series
also seems a little old and quaint in the new millennium.
However, like the books that spawned it,
Curious George 2 is a likeable enough - if certainly unessential -
way to keep kids occupied for a little over an hour. There is very
little violence, no rude language, a silly-but-easy-to-follow storyline and
some adorable animals.
Of course, adults will probably find it
cutesy, predictable and not overly exciting. But the adults are not
the target audience for this trifle. Their enjoying it is a plus, but
just gravy.
With recent kiddie films including the
hard-to-watch Planet 51 and G-Force, the tapioca charms of
Curious George 2 are at least bearable for someone who has graduated
elementary school. The film occasionally even tries to throw in a joke
or two for the adults - but they do not do it at a stultifying pace like
Shrek.
Curious George 2 knows its
audience, and it should be just fine for the little tikes who will
undoubtedly be making up the great majority of the film's audience. It
isn't necessarily going to lure in an adult audience, then again it won't
repulse them, either.
